My team built a suite of enterprise-class products supporting recruiting at Facebook. We leveraged large-scale data sets to empower high-velocity and high-performing teams. Our products supported all aspects of the recruiting lifecycle, from sourcing candidates and initial outreach to interviewing, assessment, offers and onboarding.

We consistently improved outcomes for recruiters by providing a robust infrastructure for reporting, operations and execution. As a result, recruiting velocity increased by 25%, leading to more successful offers per sourced candidate and enabling over 25,000 hires in three years.

We built these products from the ground up, and my role as a design leader was to ensure teams focused on the most impactful problems at the right level of fidelity. When moving fast, product quality often is compromised, so I developed a quality framework to track issues, prioritise design enhancements and automatically report progress. This resulted in a 150% increase in design tickets closed yearly.

Key Areas of Focus

  • Our Discovery team identified top-tier candidates from a global database of over two million prospects. Our candidate search leveraged advanced machine learning to surface highly qualified prospects and match them to specific job requisitions across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus. Our search outperformed LinkedIn, enabling us to source candidates who performed well throughout the interview process and succeeded once they joined the company.

  • The Engage team delivered an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and full-featured communication platform to seamlessly manage the thousands of messages sent to candidates daily. Recruiters may have as many as 250 concurrent threads open with candidates, and our product helped them manage each conversation promptly and personally at every touchpoint. Tasks and next steps were aggregated, giving Recruiters a single interface to manage all of their communications.

  • The Evaluate team supported our global onsite interview logistics. We scheduled over 25,000 onsite monthly interviews at our Menlo Park campus alone. Our scheduling and evaluation products ensured that trained interviewers arrived on time and had the tools and information needed to evaluate each candidate consistently and fairly. We tracked interview questions for effectiveness and built interfaces to help interviewers take high-quality notes that mitigated bias and supported efficient interview decisions.

  • The Metrics and Core UX teams constantly improved outcomes for recruiters by providing a robust infrastructure for reporting, operations, and execution. Over 1,500 Sourcers, Coordinators, and Recruiters used our product daily, and tens of thousands of employees conducted interviews monthly. Effective recruiting is about managing data at scale and responding quickly to changing conditions.

As one of the first Enterprise Design teams at Facebook, we established a set of tools and practices that better supported our needs, including a new Enterprise Design System, content guidelines, and internal branding.
